What about the pit in my hallway?
Last night I found a pit in my apartment hallway. A pit with no flesh remaining so it was impossible to tell if it was the pit of a peach or a nectarine or an apricot or I guess a huge plum. I wouldn’t know. I stepped past it but I kept thinking of it and then today it was gone. I wonder if that was just my assignment for the night? The assignment of pondering the pit in the hallway. What would I have discovered after this assignment? I would discover that I don’t know the difference between stone fruit pits—only their flesh and skin.
It took me to research.

Difference between peach and nectarine pits
There are peaches that have clingstone pits so the pit is woven into the flesh and some that have freestone pits that peel away from the flesh. I still don’t know what fruit was on the floor, but now that I think of it I am sure it would have had to be wholly in someone's mouth to have been so void of flesh.
